Principal's Message

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. I have lived in North East Victoria for the majority of my life. I have now been the principal at Oxley Primary School for five years, and it has been an absolute privilege to lead and serve this wonderful school community during that time.
I see the connection between Oxley Primary School and the wider Oxley community as vitally important for the growth and development of our students. Strong partnerships between school, families and community create the best possible environment for children to thrive. We are passionate about being a rural school in the King Valley and are proud of the unique opportunities this provides our students. As part of this, we have embedded an Agriculture program within our Science curriculum, encouraging students to learn about and engage with the main industry that surrounds our school community.
I believe in allowing students to have fun at school, while also maintaining high expectations around behaviour and academic standards. As a school, we believe that efforts to help students become socially competent members of society require an ongoing approach focused on teaching and encouragement. In my time at Oxley Primary School, I have seen the school receive an overall score of “High” in the School Performance Report, which looks at Learning and Wellbeing. This achievement reflects the hard work of our dedicated staff, the support of our families, and the efforts of our students.
At Oxley Primary School, we have adopted strong routines and Instructional Models for both teaching and wellbeing. Our teachers take the time to build rapport with every student in order to establish trust and positive relationships. They provide specific feedback to help correct behaviour and intentionally look for opportunities to praise students. We believe in explicitly teaching expected behaviours so that all students understand what success looks like in both their learning and their interactions with others.
Prior to my appointment at Oxley, I spent over four years as Principal of Currawa Primary School in the Upper Goulburn Region. Previous to this, I was an Acting Leading Teacher at Yarrawonga P–12 College and have taught in other schools across North East Victoria, Canberra, and spent four years working in private education business in South East Asia. I am passionate about education and about helping people in education to be the best that they can be.
My wife Jo and I currently live in Yarrawonga with our three primary school-aged children. As a family, we enjoy getting outside, exploring the beautiful picnic, and camping areas in North East Victoria, being part of our local community groups, and getting out on Lake Mulwala in our boat.
Please say hello when you see me around and about, introduce yourself, or call into the office if you have any concerns or issues that I may be able to help you with.
I look forward to continuing to work together to ensure Oxley Primary School remains a place where students are supported, challenged, and inspired to succeed.
