Learning
At Oxley Primary School we are dedicated to helping our students to achieve their best in their learning. In addition to the core subjects of maths and english, we offer specialist subjects of Ag Science, Italian, MACC - Art, MARC - Library and PE.

English
At Oxley Primary School we focus on building student's understanding of 'The Big Six' of literacy. These are; oral language, phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension. We aim for our students to develop the practical English skills they'll need for life as well as a love of literacy.
Every day students are given explicit instruction and practise these skills across a range of genres.
Across our classrooms teacher's follow a shared instructional model to ensure their lessons are in alignment and students can achieve their best in all our classes.
Maths
At the core of our maths instruction is problem solving, skills and concepts.

Ag Science
Living in a rural area many students see agriculture daily on their way to school or they may even live on a farm. Our Ag/Science program strengthens students understanding of where their food and fibre come from. Students learn to take care and pride in their environment at school with hands on experience growing and then cooking with a variety of different produce. We have a strong emphasis on engaging with locals in the community to help enrich students learning. Students learn new skills such as dying and spinning wool from a sheep and caring for farm animals.
Students are encouraged to be curious and have a go with many opportunities presented to them within our Ag/Science program which is unique to Oxley PS.
Italian
Learning Italian at Oxley Primary School helps children build confidence in communicating in another language while discovering a rich and vibrant culture. Through fun, hands-on activities such as speaking, listening, singing songs, playing games and simple writing tasks, students learn everyday words, phrases and language rules they can use in familiar situations. Learning Italian also supports children’s overall language development, helps them understand and appreciate cultural differences, and encourages curiosity and enthusiasm for the wider world.

MACC - Visual Art
The MACC program visits Oxley Primary School every Wednesday. Specialist teacher Leah Stephens delivers the Visual Arts Curriculum, teaching units of work in drawing, painting, collage, construction, modelling, printmaking and clay. Students are taught to problem-solve, think creatively and add their own personal expression to artworks. They investigate and then practice in various art mediums, techniques and processes as they explore how different artworks are made. Students research artists from different cultures and times, they develop and master skills, learn about constructive peer feedback, and they are also given autonomy during some free-choice sessions.
MARC - Library
The Mobile Area Resource Centre [M.A.R.C.] is a service that travels to rural schools across Victoria. This service allows children greater access to educational resources as well as the opportunity to borrow books from the Library van.
The M.A.R.C. van services Oxley P.S every Monday and gives the children the opportunity to borrow and participate in class activities focussing on themes/books to promote positive wellbeing and literacy outcomes.

MiniLit and MacqLit
We are fortunate to be able to offer the MiniLit and MacqLit programs to our low-progress readers. This is an evidence based small group intervention program run with an Educational Support person out of the classroom.
For our younger readers, MiniLit provides explicit instruction in phonemic awareness, systematic synthetic phonics for reading and spelling, letter formation, and connected text reading.
MacqLit is an explicit and systematic reading intervention program for small groups of older low-progress readers. It focuses on teaching students the key components of reading: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension.
